COMMUNITY PARTNERSHIPS:
1. Student Environmental Leadership Action Team (SELAT): Augusta Fells Savage is active in the community and shares their green knowledge with the BCPS school board and other BCPS Schools. The students are members of SELAT and have presented to the school board in 2013 to share their green work and advocate for district support of green work at every BCPS School.The Student Environmental Leadership Action Team (SELAT) is a committee of the Baltimore Green Schools Network, and has been meeting since 2011. Made up of students of all ages, and from all corners of the city, as well as parents, teachers, and other advocates, SELAT seeks to make sure that youth voices are part of the conversation about Baltimore's environment, especially when it comes to making our schools greener.

2. Blue Water Baltimore:

Type of Support: Teacher Professional Development and Tool Kit Provider
Collaboration: In November 7, 2012 Debra Lenik, BWB volunteer manager facilitated twenty-three 10th graders in planting trees along Calhoun street, sides of the football field and in front of the school building. On October 29th, 2013, BWB trained an Augusta Fells teacher the art of storm drain stenciling and on November 13, 2013, a National Geographic's Fieldscope training at BWB headquarters. In November 18 - 27, 2013, BWB provided Augusta Fells with storm drain kit; ten students painted four storm strains around the school building. Storm drain stenciling in the neighboring community is scheduled to resume in April, 2014. Every now in then, Lisa Guire sends information/opportunities for the students of Augusta Fells. This is a sustained partnership with Augusta fells that started in Fall of 2012 and will continue in the future.

Collaboration: In November, 2013, Parks and People provided a series of training on Schoolyard Habitat Education Program and a one-day Gwynns Falls Field Trip training to Augusta Fells teacher. Both training provided instructional materials and resources to the teacher. Early January, 2014 Parks and People provided Augusta Fells with Schoolyard Habitat toolkit, which the students used in re-potting seedlings in preparation for the spring planting season. In addition to sending information about the learning opportunities for students and teachers, Parks and People staff is scheduled for a classroom visit on April 29th, 2014. Parks and People is also scheduled to provide two free field trips (may 1, 2014 and May 6, 2014) for Augusta Fells senior students, one being a restoration program and the other to the Gwynns Falls Trail. Kara Berger and Sam Little of Parks and People Foundation also visited Augusta Fells on March 18, 2014 to meet with the teacher involved in the project.

On April 29-May 1, 2013, another group of students visited the Fox Island Environmental Center for a three-day residential program. On March 21, 2013 faculty meeting, two CBF staff visited Augusta Fells and had a presentation of their environmental program and opportunities for teachers. In the school year 2013-2014 Augusta Fells students visited CBF's Arthur Sherwood Environmental Center (November 11, 2013) followed by a three-day residential program at Karen Noonan Environmental Center (March 10-12, 2014) where students conducted interviews to the local community in Smith Island about environmental and economic issues the island is facing, students were also involved in a trash removal in the Lower Hooper's Island. On April 11, 2014, another group of students will visit the CBF headquarter, Philip Merril Environmental Center. All the field trip opportunities to the Bay involved water-quality testing activity. In addition to providing field trip opportunities to the students and professional development opportunity for the teachers, CBF's studentwave is also in contact with the Green Club members through email and instragram. AFSIVA Green Club has contributed an article to the Studentwave website.

Collaboration: Since 2012, Baltimore Office of Sustainability supports the environmental programs at Augusta Fells by providing grant awards and environmental project ideas and information on opportunities for students and teachers. This school year, the Office of Sustainability did not only provide grant but also supported the school by offering support in finding resources and learning opportunities for the students and professional development opportunities for teachers. Renee Goodenow of the Office of Sustainability have also met the Green Club and talked about the green school application and provided project ideas. On March 10, 2014, Renee Goodenow also conducted a professional development opportunity for teachers. The school received grants from Baltimore Office of Sustainability from 2012 to the present. The school is also planning to apply for another grant next school year.

After learning IPM, students with the guidance of the project director went out to the local community to interview restaurant owners and to give away brochures about integrated pest management. Students conducted research about the health and environmental impact of the pesticide or pesticide-containing products the business owner uses or sells. Students then write a letter of recommendation to the business owners to help improve pest management practice.

Since 2012-2013, SciTech provides students opportunities to visit the SciTech lab to conduct lab investigation on the Chesapeake Bay Critters through grants. On march 19, 2013 and October 15, 2013 Augusta Fells students visited the lab and conducted water quality test at the harbor, students also students the diversity of the critters in the Bay by investigating biofilms. On October 9, 2013, four students, 2 teachers, and a parent received a scholarship to attend the public lecture of Jean Michel Cousteau on oceanography. In addition to visiting the site, SciTech also sends loaner lab equipment and supplies on wildlife forensic to the school. SciTech continuously communicates to the school to offer professional development opportunities for teachers and free visits for the students.

This loaner lab uses a model organism that allows students to conduct lab investigations on the effect of nicotine and alcohol to human system. The same organism is used to learn about effects of cosmetic products to living systems (Chemotaxis). Cornell also sends curriculum and Nook readers to environmental science and US history classes to learn about the relationship of ecological changes and colonial america.
