ENERGY CONSERVATION:
1. ENERGY AUDIT: During the first semester of 2013-2014, the "Green Club" members (group of eighteen 9th-11th grade students) walked around the school building everyday to turn off light, fans, and smart boards which were left on by the class. Students recorded the room number with the electric device/s on and graphed the data. This second semester of 2013-2014, the "Green Club" works with Baltimore Energy Challenge to improve the project. With the assistance of the Baltimore Energy Challenge, Green CLub's energy patrol conducted an energy audit in every classroom, checking for lights, computers, windows, and other appliances. Students left door hanger on doors reflecting the result of their investigation. These door hangers are intended to inform teachers on how to conserve energy through few behavior changes (e.g. turning off lights and other appliances, turning off power strips, closing the windows). Teachers received an email the following day explaining the details of the energy conservation program and the purpose of the door hangers. The email also commended energy saver teachers with score of 5/5. The Energy Patrol will return to the classrooms to monitor progress.
2. ENERGY CONSERVATION PROGRAM: AmeriCorps Staff from Baltimore Energy Challenge works with the "Green CLub" ( 9th- 11th grade students) to educate students about energy conservation. AmeriCorps staff members meet with the "Green Club" every Thursday of school year 2013-2014 to engage students in energy lessons. This program aims to provide the Green Club with leadership with the knowledge on how to help save energy in school and develop leadership skills. Some of the lessons/activities include:
a. Lessons on Major Energy Sources
b. Lesson on Nuclear Energy
c. Lesson/Demonstration on how an Electric Meter works
d. Lesson and Debate on Fracking in Maryland
e. Lesson on Energy Conservation
f. Lesson on Hydropower
The students are also working with the energy book intended to teach students about energy sources and energy conservation. The book will be printed and will be used to teach middle school students, the group also plans to print a class set of the book to be given to a middle school classroom in the area.

3. SWITCH DECALS: The "Green Club" also put switch decals (provided by Baltimore Energy Challenge) throughout the school building on March 20, 2014. These labels serve as reminders for students and teachers to turn off light switches when not in use. Students are also in the process of designing their own switch decals to be used in the future. In addition to labeling the switches with reminders, students will continue walking around the building every afternoon to turn off lights, smartboard, and computers left by the class.
