HABITAT RESTORATION:
1. TREE PLANTING: In fall of 2012, Twenty-five 10th-grade Biology students planted trees around the school campus in cooperation with "Blue Water Baltimore. Students first received a watershed lesson and tree-planting training from BWB staff, Debra Lenik before they proceeded to the activity. Students planted the native trees along the street, in front of the school building, and along the sides of the football field. This was a fun and memorable activity for the students, especially that for most of them it was their first tree planting experience. Aside from being a fun learning experience, students who participated in this event earned service learning hours. At the end of the project students learned that native trees are good habitat for birds and other creatures.
2. BUTTERFLY GARDEN: Augusta Fells Savage received an award from Baltimore Sustainability Challenge to start a butterfly garden along the sides of the parking lot this spring, 2014. Fifty biology students and 18 Green Club members will work together in making this project possible. This project is a major component of the Sustainability Challenge grant awarded to Augusta Fells . In this project, students will grow native plants to attract butterflies and to model ecological relationships and habitat requirements. Students will start installing the butterfly habitat garden in the week of April 7th, 2014. The garden will attract and serve as a habitat for native butterflies; students will also release butterflies (raised in the classroom) in this garden.

Students will be involved in trash removal, tree planting, and invasive species removal at Gwynn Falls trail. The Green Club (eighteen 9th-12th grade) and 30 senior students are scheduled to participate in these events on May 1st, 2014 and May 5th, 2014 for 4 hours each day. Prior to these events, Parks and People staff will visit Augusta Fells Savage on April 29th, 2014 to give students a 30-45 minutes overview of the program. Participating students will earn service learning hours they need to complete their graduation requirements.
