SOLID WASTE REDUCTION:
1. PAPER RECYCLING PROJECT: In school year 2012-2013 four members of the Green Club spearheaded the paper recycling program at Augusta Fells. These students labeled, designed and distributed recycling boxes to selected classrooms in the building. In the beginning of the school year 2013 -2014, with the growing number of Green Club members, the paper recycling program expanded. The Green Club ( now with 18 members of 9th-11th grade students), designed and distributed recycling bins to every classroom in the school. The members of the Green Club empty these recycling boxes every Wednesday afternoon for Baltimore City to pick up Thursday morning.
2. PAPER MAKING PROJECT: Some of the collected used paper are also recycled by the Green Club. The Green club transform these waste into cards and some are used to make cut out letters to label bulletin and information boards. This project started last school year and made possible by the grant awarded by the Sustainability Challenge.

3. ART CLASSES USED RECYCLABLE MATERIALS TO CREATE SCULPTURES: A total of about 100 students taking Art classes (9th-12th) of Mr. Goggins and Ms. Kramvi create giant tree sculptures using recyclable materials this school year 2013-2014. These sculptures are being designed by the students with paintings that tell a story. Students are using collected used paper in the classroom, magazines used by journalism club, and plastic bottles in building their artistic design. Finished artworks will be displayed throughout the building.
4. VERMICOMPOST BIN IN THE CLASSROOM: Five Green Club members (9th-11th) have started an indoor vermicompost last March 5, 2014. This is an introductory and testing for vermicomposting, it is currently working and situated in one of the science classrooms and being use to decompose fruit and vegetable waste and other breakfast left overs of first period class. Since the project is starting small, the students only collect compostable waste during breakfast of one class and during the supper program afterschool. The group plans to expand this project to other students once they've mastered the process. The group also plans to expand the project and start collecting compostable lunch waste (fruits and vegetable) from the cafeteria.
5.BOTTLES AND CANS RECYCLING PROJECT: On April 04, 2014, Augusta Fells Savage received recycling bins for bottles and cans. Five members of the "Green Club" (grades 9th-11th) designed recycling signage, labeled and distributed the bins to common areas around the school building. These bins are intended to collect bottles and cans only. The "Green Club" will empty these bins every Wednesday after school for the city to pick up the following morning.
