AWARDS AND SPECIAL RECOGNITION:
1. Baltimore Sustainability and Energy Challenge: Augusta Fells is a recipient of Sustainability Grant for the school year 2012-2013 and 2013-2014 and Baltimore Energy Challenge in 2013-2014. The grant awards were used by the school in implementing green projects and activities such as field trips, recycling program, and outdoor garden, and energy conservation projects. Twenty 10th and 11th grade students participated in the 2012-2013 activities and eighteen 9th-12th grade students are participating in the activities in 2013-2014.
2. Chesapeake Bay Trust Fund: This award is intended to support the three-day field trip of students to Karen Noonan Environmental Center to study the vanishing lands of the Bay, students also had the chance to interact with the local community. During the residential study, students did not only explore the islands; they too were involved in trash removal. This will also support other environmental projects in school such as the creation of a garden in courtyard in spring, 2014. Eighteen 9th-12th grade students participated in the island study at Karen Noonan Environmental Center. These students are expected to carry out the environmental projects listed in the grant.
3. Scholarship Grants: Two groups of students received scholarship grant awards to attend a two-day Careers and Conservation Workshop at Cornell University Ornithology Lab on October 24-25, 2013 and April 24-25, 2014. This grant award covered the transportation, housing, food, workshop fee and materials. Students were nominated to participate and receive funding on the basis of academic performance, interest in conservation science, and economic status. There were seven 11th graders who received the award in Fall and four 9th and 10th graders received the award for the spring workshop. Below are sample award letters:

4. Climate Change Poster at the International Genius Olympiad: Tevin Golding, currently a 12th grade participated in an International Genius Olympiad Competition and traveled to State University of New York to present his Climate Change poster and was awarded a bronze medal last June, 2013.
5. REUSE TO REDUCE LITTER - LETTER TO THE COUNCIL: The Green Club, which is composed of 18 members were made aware of the proposed Bill #13-0241, a ten-cent fee on disposable plastic and paper bags. After having discussed the content of the bill and the statistics presented to the group, the group had a debate whether or not to support the bill. All the members of the group agreed to help reduce plastic pollution, however not everybody agreed to the proposed ten-cent bill. The opposing teams had their own valid arguments. At the end, a member of the club who is for the Bill wrote a letter to the council expressing support and asking the council to support the bill. Below is the letter sent by the student on January 23, 2014.
6. SAMSUNG SOLVE FOR TOMORROW STATE FINALIST: Augusta Fells' environmental research idea is one of the five state finalists for the Samsung Solve for Tomorrow 2013. Augusta Fells entry to this competition involves a research idea about how a floating wetland helps improve the Bay's water quality.

7. Chesapeake Bay Foundation Student Wave Action Certificate: AFSIVA Green Club received an award from CBF Student wave in recognition of their actions that help Save the Bay and for the significant involvement in #MyBayBlueprint Student Action Campaign. The award certificate, Chesapeake poster and CBF stickers were presented to the team on April 11th, 2014 at the CBF headquarter.
